Webinar Topic: House Bill 451 – Nonopioid Alternatives – Effective Date July 1st
Overview: Pending the Governor’s approval, a new law will become effective on July 1, 2019, which will affect prescribing or administration of opioid controlled substances by health care practitioners. Specifically, before providing anesthesia services or prescribing, ordering, dispensing or administering an opioid drug, health care practitioners will be required to discuss and inform patients about nonopioid alternatives. The patient must also be provided a pamphlet, developed by the Department of Health, which describes various forms of nonopioid alternative medications and treatments, and the specific alternatives discussed must be documented in the patient’s record.
How are our hospitals planning to implement this new law? FHA is hosting this interactive webinar on Monday, June 24, at 2 p.m. ET to facilitate discussion and sharing of strategies that are being developed to effectively comply with the new requirements.
Suggested Attendance: Member COOs, CNOs, CMOs, Professionals working in the following areas: Quality/Patient Safety, Risk Managers, Compliance, Communications, Emergency Department Management, Pharmacy, Patient Admissions and others with interest in this legislation.
