Meeting Description:
This webinar will introduce viewers to AACOM's Office of Government Relations (GR), describe resources and opportunities the AOGME community can take advantage of, and provide information on graduate medical education (GME) policy issues. The webinar will also provide an overview of AACOM's new Public Policy Agenda for the 116th Congress, which reflects the association's legislative and regulatory priorities to ensure that osteopathic medical education (OME) is an active force in the formulation of national health and higher education policies.
Webinar participants will learn how GME officials can:
  • Contribute to and become involved in ED to MED, AACOM's national grassroots advocacy campaign that elevates graduate student debt issues in the halls of Congress
  • Be considered by AACOM for federal nominations
  • Utilize resources such as the Washington Insider to stay informed and engaged in policy issues, advocacy opportunities, and federal funding and programs

Pamela Murphy, MSW

Pamela Murphy, M.S.W., is the Senior Vice President of Government Relations at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), where she leads the association's federal legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts on behalf of membership. She heads the Washington, DC office and is responsible for strengthening partnerships by developing strategic communications on key policy issues as well as fostering collaboration with other national organizations to present unified health professions positions on Capitol Hill.
Prior to that, she served as the Government Affairs and Public Relations Specialist for the Allstate Foundation Program, where she spearheaded a national public awareness campaign on the economics of domestic violence. She has worked as a Senior Policy Advisor to a Member of the US House of Representatives where she handled the Member's legislative priorities, served as the Member's primary speechwriter, and managed the office's appropriations process.

Mary-Lynn Bender

Mary-Lynn Bender is the Senior Director of Government & Public Relations at the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), where she provides vision and direction for the association's government and public relations srategies and initiatives to advance its federal policy agenda. She is responsible for advising executive leadership on political advocacy and implementing the organization's public affairs and grassroots advocacy campaigns. She previously served as the Director of Congressional and Public Affairs, where she served as a senior registered lobbyist and led the organization's efforts to advance its public policy priorities on Capitol Hill. Prior to joining AACOM, Mary-Lynn worked for Virginia Cancer Specialists, P.C., an affiliate of the United Network of U.S. Oncology. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from West Virginia University and has worked as a news reporter and freelance writer, covering a broad range of issues.
