Meeting Description:

CSU is engaged in a comprehensive program to improve energy access in the developing world.  Centered around the electrification for remote off-grid villages, the program includes an innovative combination of energy access coupled with a focus on developing the village economy.  The program has engaged faculty and research staff across the university, including engineering, business, social sciences, agriculture, and other areas.  The presentation will introduce the program and current efforts in East Africa.

Daniel Zimmerle

Daniel Zimmerle is a Senior Research Associate and Director of the Electric Power System Laboratory in the Energy Institute @ Colorado State University.  His work in microgrids has included military bases, expeditionary systems, Alaskan villages, electric vehicles and even parts of the Fort Collins’ power system.  A recent major focus has been in the operation of off-grid systems under high-variable and uncertain inputs.  Zimmerle leads several projects doing statistical modeling methane emissions from the natural gas industry.
