Meeting Description:
In this webinar, Brian Patterson, President of EMerge Alliance,  will explore various approaches to deploying pure DC and hybrid AC/DC power distribution systems in buildings. Topics such as power only DC with wireless IPV6 control, power over ethernet (PoE), Universal Serial Bus Power Distribution, (USB-PD) and digital power distribution (New).  In addition, it will include a discussion of distributed power generation and storage in buildings as well as neighborhood and regional grid connectivity for building power systems in a “grid of grids’ architecture. Joining Brian to describe some recent case studies of DC deployment will Be Paul Savage, CEO of Nextek Power Systems.

Brian T. Patterson is the President of the EMerge Alliance. Patterson’s extensive technical and work history in building technologies, electronics, and fiber optics has resulted in his holding multiple patents in those fields.  He has held positions of General Manger of Business Development for the Building Products Division of Armstrong World Industries, Director Fiber Optics for AMP Incorporated, and Division President for Kollmorgan Corporation.  He is a founding member of the EMerge Alliance, and a member of the IEEE, IEC, CABA, PSMA, SEPA, USGBC and PHIUS and an active participant in UL/NEMA/NFPA task groups on DC power. He is the EMerge liaison to the National Electrical Manufacturers Association; Underwriters Laboratories; Solar Energy Industry Association, the NSF sponsored Center for Power Electronic Systems; the FREEDM Systems Center; the Power Electronics Research Group and the Alliance to Save Energy.

Paul Savage, Chief Executive Officer, Nextek Power Systems

Paul is the CEO of Nextek Power Systems. A graduate of Haverford College, Paul has a background in finance at The First Boston Corporation, Cantor Fitzgerald Corporation, and Lehman Brothers. He also served as the director of marketing and customer finance for V-TRAC Infrastructure Development Company as one of the founding senior managers for the Caterpillar dealership in Hanoi, Vietnam. At Caterpillar, Paul helped grow this start-up to 87 employees, 5 offices, and $22 million in sales in two years. Paul is the current Chair and a Founding Governing Member of the EMerge Alliance; and a member of the advisory board of REIL (the Renewable Energy & International Law Project).
