Alabama’s Health Information Exchange (HIE), called OneHealthRecord, is launching in April 2012 as a means for healthcare providers to exchange patient information electronically.  Is your practice ready to exchange?  The Alabama Academy of Family Physicians and the Alabama Chapter-American Academy of Pediatrics, through its Practice Management Association, are pleased to join forces to present this 60-minute webinar for members and practice managers on how you can learn more in order to meet meaningful use requirements and deliver more informed care.

This session, which is a complimentary benefit for AAFP and AL-AAP members, PMA members and family practice managers, will feature a presentation and Q&A with Dan Roach, MD, Alabama’s HIT Coordinator; Gary Parker, IT Project Director, Alabama’s One Health Record, Alabama Medicaid Agency; and Kent Ogle, Client Program Director, Thomson-Reuters.  Participants will learn:

 

s How Alabama's One Health Record will allow physicians to meet meaningful use criteria;

s The methods available for a physician’s office to engage in electronic health information exchange

s How to evaluate the health information technology maturity level of your practice in order to begin exchanging

HIT Coordinator, State of Alabama
With an educational background in medical informatics and 15 years of experience in health information technology (HIT), Dr. Dan Roach was recently appointed by Gov. Bentley as the HIT Coordinator for the State of
Alabama and is responsible for the State Health Information Exchange and Meaningful Use projects.  In addition, he serves as Assistant Dean and Director of Medical Informatics at the Center for Strategic Health Innovation at the University of South Alabama and also as Director of the Alabama Regional Extension Center.

IT Project Director, Alabama’s One Health Record, Alabama Medicaid Agency
Gary Parker has designed, built, and implemented various computer systems and subsystems over the last 19 years for both federal/state governments and private industry. Prior to joining Alabama Medicaid in August 2011, he worked for the Alabama Department of Mental Health where he focused on project management and strategic planning and analysis.  He became involved in Alabama’s statewide HIE initiative in 2009.

Kent Ogle, Client Program Director, Thomson-Reuters
With a 20-year career in HIT and clinical benchmarking, Kent Ogle joined Thomson Reuters in 2006 as a Client Services Manager, and was promoted to the team’s manager in 2008. He recently joined the HIE team as the Client Program Director for the Alabama One Health Record project, and earned the first HIE certification (CPHIE) in the company.
