What's Going Online with Young Black Gay Men

Meeting Description:
The Center for Strengthening Youth Prevention Paradigms (SYPP Center) invites you to participate in the June presentation of our “Third Thursdays Webinar Series.” Two presenters will be discussing the relevance of social technologies to reach, engage, and mobilize vulnerable populations such as young Black gay men (BGM) and other men who have sex with men (MSM) who are disproportionately impacted by the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic. This webinar will review preliminary findings of a survey of BGM/MSM social media use conducted by the National Black Gay Men's Advocacy Coalition (NBGMAC) in order to inform how to effectively reach this population around the issue of HIV/AIDS.
After this webinar, you will be able to:
  • describe how BGM/MSM are using social media
  • increase dialogue about how social media can be effectively leveraged to reach, engage, and mobilize BGM/MSM around important health issues such as HIV/AIDS
  • identify best practices/strategies for reaching young BGM/MSM

Housed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, SYPP Center provides capacity building assistance (CBA) services to communities seeking to prevent HIV/AIDS among youth, with an emphasis on young gay men and transgender youth of color. SYPP Center offers a framework for communities to create sustainable structural changes and build healthy community coalitions that respond to local needs.

This project is supported by Cooperative Agreement Number 5U65PS001708-05 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
