FHA HSC Webinar: Serving Healthy Summer Meals in Hospitals

Meeting Description:

FHA is supportive of a sustainable and healthier work environment. Consistent with the Triple Aim of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to achieve better health, better care and lower costs, the FHA Hospital Sustainability Collaborative (HSC) aligns with other FHA quality initiatives to promote health, reduce waste and lower costs, thus creating a more efficient and effective health care system. The HSC provides resources to participating hospitals to create better, safer, greener workplaces and communities.

Food insecurity contributes to the rising cost of health care. Despite healthcare institutions’ unique position to participate in federal hunger-relief programs, very few do. The USDA’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) offers a cost-neutral way to fight hunger while improving the health and quality of life of the people hospitals serve. This webinar will introduce how the summer feeding program operates, provide examples of replicable models in healthcare institutions and offer resources and recommendations on how to participate next summer.

Objectives

  • Understand the connection between food insecurity and the cost of health care
  • Elaborate on the purpose, structure and current reach of the USDA’s summer feeding program (SFS) and potential for health care institutions to participate
  • Describe innovative examples of how SFSP is being implemented in hospitals and the outcomes from those sites
  • Identify available resources and considerations specific to operating SFSP in Florida

Webinar Registration
There is no cost for FHA Members to participate in this webinar.
