Preparing for the CDC/DASH MOU between Education and Health Departments: Practical Examples of Interagency Collaborations Supporting Sexual Health

Meeting Description:
In early 2013 the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Division of Adolescent and School Health (CDC/DASH) will release a funding opportunity announcement (FOA) for state and local education agencies (SEAs/LEAs) to improve the educational and health outcomes of youth with a focus on HIV/STD prevention.  One new component of this FOA is a required memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the state/local education and health agencies.  The extent to which SEAs/LEAs partner with health departments ranges from jurisdiction-to-jurisdiction.  This webinar will assist SEAs and LEAs with useful ideas on how to partner or expand current partnerships with state/local health departments.  From these ideas, SEAs/LEAs can connect with health departments, as required by the new FOA, and ultimately improve sexual health outcomes for youth.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to…

  • Describe the importance of partnering with state/local health or education agencies to improve youth sexual health outcomes.
  • Utilize tips on forming new partnerships with other agencies.
  • Identify at least 2 ways to partner with their state/local health or education agency.
  • Identify next steps in developing a MOU.

Target Audience:

HIV/STD Prevention Coordinators within state and local education agencies; and coordinators working on adolescent sexual health within state or local health agencies (within HIV, STD, adolescent and school health units)
