Meeting Archive:
How flexible "systemness" enables improved performance

Meeting Description:
National Healthcare Corporation (NHC) is the oldest publically-traded long term care facility in the U.S. Historically ahead of the curve with pay-for-performance and star-ratings, today NHC’s structure allows for system top-down consistency and alignment of initiatives while accommodating flexibility at the regional and individual center levels. This structure has allowed NHC to become a top performer in every post-acute question and dimension in the NRC Health database. This session explores the organizational structure, initiatives, and culture that led to their success.

Objectives

  • Identify the initiatives NHC adopted from inside and outside healthcare to become a top performer
  • Describe how leaders can drive improvement initiatives while still allowing site autonomy
  • Explain how NHC drives culture through orientation, job descriptions, daily behaviors, and leadership succession development
