Elephant in the Room: Cloud Security and What Vendors and Customers Need To Do To Stay Secure

Meeting Description:

One of the benefits of Cloud Computing that has been articulated throughout the CloudU program is the benefit of abstracting responsibility for IT functions off to a third party. While this is indeed a benefit of Cloud Computing, it is important to realize that when it comes to security, customers still have a responsibility to ensure their data is secure.

Cloud Computing security should be regarded as a shared responsibility between the vendor and the customer with both parties having responsibility for different aspects of security. In this webinar, CloudU curator Ben Kepes will talk with a panel of experts about how customers can improve the security of their cloud-based environment by carefully selecting a vendor and ensuring that they themselves follow a set of security best practices.

 Topics covered will include:

  • Areas of security that vendors are typically responsible for (e.g. data center and network security, security of the cloud host machine)
  • Areas of security that customers are typically responsible for (e.g. installing and maintaining software firewalls, using strong passwords, establishing role-based access for cloud applications)
