Please join the Center for Progressive Reform and esteemed guest speakers on May 8, at 1:00 PM EDT/ 10:00 AM PDT for a webinar on “Securing a Nontoxic Work Environment.”
Workers should be able to earn a paycheck without putting their lives or their health and well-being on the line. Yet every day, an estimated 137 U.S. workers succumb to diseases caused by on-the-job exposure to toxic chemicals and other hazardous substances, and hundreds of thousands more suffer from nonfatal illnesses. On May 8, webinar participants will learn about strategies that workers, their representatives, and advocates can implement to reduce or eliminate chemical hazards in the workplace and assist injured workers, all without waiting for government intervention. This is critically important now more than ever as the Trump administration and chemical industry are fighting aggressively to undermine existing protections and stall new ones.
CPR Policy Analyst Katie Tracy will begin the webinar with an overview of the resources and strategies explored in CPR’s latest publication, “Chemical Detox for the Workplace: A Guide to Securing a Nontoxic Work Environment.” The webinar will then move into a deeper discussion of the strategies explored in the guide. Joe Santarella, Co-founder of Santarella & Eckert LLC, will share his expertise on suing low-road employers using citizen suit provisions in federal environmental laws. Mike Schade, the Mind the Store Campaign Director at Safer Chemical, Healthy Families, will lead a discussion about advocacy opportunities beyond the workplace, including the successful market-based campaign to remove toxic substances like methylene chloride from store shelves.
