Grindr: Sex Risk and HIV Prevention Opportunities for Young Men Who Have Sex with Men

Meeting Description:
The Center for Strengthening Youth Prevention Paradigms (SYPP Center) invites you to participate in a webinar with Drs. Eric Rice and Ian Holloway, who will be discussing their latest research on Grindr and young men who have sex with men. Grindr is a smartphone geosocial networking application used for meeting potential sex partners.

This webinar is part of the “Third Thursdays Webinar Series,” which is designed for HIV prevention providers serving youth, particularly young gay men and transgender youth of color.

After this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Examine patterns in Grindr use among young men who have sex with men and how those patterns impact HIV risk.
  2. Identify how Internet and smartphone resources for sexual health and HIV prevention are being utilized by young men who have sex with men.
  3. Recommend possible directions in smartphone-based applications for HIV prevention interventions targeting young men who have sex with men.

Housed at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, SYPP Center provides capacity building assistance (CBA) services to communities seeking to prevent HIV/AIDS among youth, with an emphasis on young gay men and transgender youth of color. SYPP Center offers a framework for communities to create sustainable structural changes and build healthy community coalitions that respond to local needs.
