This webinar will introduce participants to evidence-based School Health Index, Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Too, and Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT) and how they can be integrated into higher education programs. Participants will learn from members of both SOPHE and SHAPE America who have used these tools in their higher education teacher prep programs. 
Participants will be able to:
Identify evidence-based tools and resources to assess and analyze school health policies, practices, and curriculum
Describe ways to integrate evidence-based tools and resources into health and physical education teacher preparation programs

David (Dave) Birch, PhD, MCHES®

David A. Birch is professor and chair of the Department of Health Science at The University of Alabama.  From 2001-2008 he served as a professor and chair of the Department of Health Education and Recreation at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC). Dr. Birch is currently serving as co-chair of the National Implementation Task Force for Accreditation in Health Education, as a member of the Governing Council of the American Public Health Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for the Advancement for Health Education. He is the chair of the editorial board of the Journal of School Health and a member of the editorial board of Pedagogy in Health Promotion: The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the American Journal of Health Studies.

Sarah Lee Ph.D

Sarah Lee serves as the lead health scientist for the Research Application and Evaluation Team in the School Health Branch within the Division of Population Health. She leads a team of health scientists who are focused on school-based physical activity and physical education, healthy eating, and childhood obesity prevention. She serves as the lead for youth physical activity and physical education by informing policies and practices for improving school-based physical activity through research synthesis and translation.

Lois Mauch M.S. Ed.

Lois Mauch received her master’s from Virginia Tech under the direction of Dr. George Graham. She published books various articles in National Journals. Lois is the co-founder of Be Fit 2 Learn; active classrooms. She trains for the CDC in PECAT, HECAT, & SHG. Lois has severed as Project Director for several PEP grants and is currently focusing her love for actively engaging our students through effective assessments, MVPA physical activity, fitness assessments, and monitoring heart rate. Lois primarily serves IHT customers in the western united states, working closely with John Saville and Mark Castelo
