DATA SERVICES AT RACKSPACE SERIES: Pre-aggregated analytics and social feeds using MongoDB

Meeting Description:

MongoDB is taking the database world by storm! Come and hear from two of Rackspace’s customers, Appboy and Untappd, tell their stories of MongoDB on the cloud. In this webinar, we will cover the fundamentals of ObjectRocket, Rackspace’s managed service for MongoDB, but more importantly, Appboy and Untappd will tell you about their experiences. You will learn about their business, their app, and some of the performance and scale challenges they have encountered, and how they solved them. Kenny Gorman, founder of ObjectRocket and Chief Architect at Rackspace will also be available to answer your questions and provide some insights.

·         Appboy: learn how Appboy solved issues around pre-aggregated analytics, used statistical formulas on top of the aggregation framework to return results in constant time as data grew, and performed some workaround for certain bugs

·         Untappd: learn how Untappd addressed problems serving their social feed, dealt with 5-6k queries per second on heavy nights, and used location indexes to implement geolocation search

This is also the first in a series of webinars focused on MongoDB and other data services. You will also have the opportunity to tell us what other areas you would like to explore.

Untappd is a new way to socially share and explore the world of beer with your friends and the world. Living in the craft beer haven of New York City, Greg is the backend developer for Untappd. After experiencing Rare Vos for the first time, he instantly fell in love with craft beer. While some people enjoy reading books or watching movies, Greg's passion is to code. With that being said, after Tim and Greg came up with the idea of Untappd, Greg had a working prototype the next day. Being able to combine his passion for development and craft beer allowed Untappd to be born.
