Webinar #1: Intervention through Community Collaboration and Peer Recovery Specialists

Meeting Description:
In 2016, St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside treated more than 450 overdose victims in its emergency department. In partnership with the City of Jacksonville, Gateway Community Services, and River Region Human Services, St. Vincent’s Riverside launched a six-month pilot program with the goal of identifying overdose patients as they enter the emergency room and guiding them through treatment and rehabilitation. As part of this program, participants are paired with a peer recovery specialist, someone who has battled and survived addiction, who helps guide the participant through their journey to health and recovery. In addition to emergency treatment for the overdose, this comprehensive program also includes behavioral health counseling. Once the pilot program has ended, statisticians will analyze collected data to gauge program effectiveness and potential for expansion.
