Participants will discuss areas of concern such as: the impact of domestic violence and substance abuse in shelter settings; practical tools for staff to use when working with families experiencing domestic violence and substance abuse; how to help program participants and staff feel safer; supporting advocates in their work; and juggling multiple concerns. The call will be recorded but the recording will not be avaiolable to the public.

Patti Bland

Patti Bland is the Substance Abuse Specialist at the National Center on DV, Trauma & Mental Health. Ms. Bland has worked for more than 30 years the fields of domestic violence, trauma and substance abuse. She has worked at the local, state and national levels, and has served as advocate, trainer, and director.  She has developed curricula and has authored several publications, including (with Debi Edmund), Safety and Sobriety: Real Tools You Can Use and Real Tools: Responding to Multi-Abuse.
